The Watusi are a very close-knit group and do not like to be away from the other members of the herd. At night they will sleep with their bodies touching and, if a calf is present, the calf is generally in the middle of the group.
Mitch and his wife, Bonnie, have spent countless hours observing the individual personalities of the cows and have found each cow has certain behavioral traits. For example, Grannie is very wary of people and tends to stand off and stare. Rosie is full of life and the first to come running at dinner time, kicking up her heels as she goes. Lucy, although small in size, is the most feisty of the group and would be considered the "head heifer". Chinquapin...well he's just a bull...always on the watch, taking care of his heifers. The calves, like all babies, love to run and play. Butting heads seems to be one of their favorite pastimes.
We hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of these magnificent creatures as they are truly one of the marvels of nature. We'd love to hear from anyone who has any questions or can share some stories of their Watusi with us! |
